Common Oral Surgery Procedures

Oral surgery is not something one looks forward to unless you’re suffering from constant pain or risk of infection. Then you may be more than ready for a procedure that relieves your symptoms and restores your health.

With modern advances in oral surgery methods, there’s no longer any reason for fear or anxiety. Most oral surgeries are fast, outpatient surgeries with post-operative medications that relieve any discomfort you’ll encounter.

Considering the ease of recovery, oral surgeries have become more common as a solution to severe dental issues. The most common are:

  •       Wisdom Teeth – While most people have these removed at a younger age, some adults require removal later in life as these teeth drift and move position along the jawbone causing pain. This very common oral surgery is much less traumatic than you may think and the recovery period is quick as well.
  •       Bone Grafting – While this sounds extreme it is more common than you may think. After tooth extraction, the remaining teeth can drift and the jawbone shrinks where the tooth was and becomes too weak to support a dental implant. Bone grafting solves this problem, enabling the patient to grow reinforcing bone strong enough to support an implant.
  •       Dental Implants – One of the best treatments for replacing missing teeth.

If your dentist has recommended one of these procedures to resolve a dental issue and you would like more information, please contact one of the qualified team members at The Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery today
